Winnibell is our Best Start Family Hub for the Hendon area of Sunderland, based on Lombard Street. It’s a welcoming, down-to-earth place where you and your family can get support, connect with services and join in activities from pregnancy to age 19 (or up to 25 for young people with SEND).

There’s lots happening each week for babies, children, parents and carers. Check our termly timetable for the latest activities, events, courses and support services. 

Easy to find and fully accessible

You’ll find plenty of spacious, accessible rooms and a friendly team ready to help. We’re on major bus routes and easy to reach on foot, with nearby free parking, level entrances and accessible facilities including baby-change areas and disabled toilets.

Free activities, guidance and practical support

At Winnibell Best Start Family Hub, we’re here to support you through pregnancy, birth and your child’s early years. Our Healthy Babies programme provides free advice throughout pregnancy and your baby’s first two years, so you feel supported from the start.

We offer a variety of free activities including play sessions and hub-led interactive sessions focused on bonding and development through play, music, stories, messy play and sensory play. We also offer breastfeeding and infant-feeding support, parenting courses and specialist sessions for families needing extra support with SEND or speech and language.

We also provide practical guidance including welfare rights advice, job and employment support, stop-smoking help and health guidance thanks to our NHS partners. You can also access antenatal classes and other services.
