Active Sunderland

Active Sunderland is here to help everyone move more and feel better.  Our vision is simple: “All Together an Active Sunderland – a city where everyone can be as active as they can be.”  

We work with local partners such as sports clubs, community centres and leisure centres to make being active easy and enjoyable. This means improving access to sports, leisure facilities, and our beautiful green and blue spaces.  

Our goals are to: 

  • Reach as many people as possible, including children and adults. 
  • Give children and young people the best start in life by building healthy habits. 
  • Support families and communities who are least active. 
  • Make sure everyone can use Sunderland’s parks, waterways, and sports facilities. 

The benefits of being more physically active go far beyond fitness and include:   

  • Lower your risk of heart problems 
  • Burn calories and keep your weight in-check 
  • Boost your mood and improve energy levels 
  • Improved confidence  
  • Lower stress, unwind and sleep better

We run exciting BIG events as well as initiatives such as the Sunderland Weight Management Programme, Healthy Lifestyles Programme and weekly walking programme to inspire people to move more.
