We Make Culture

We Make Culture (WMC) is a Sunderland-based charity committed to making high-quality, inclusive music-making accessible to children, young people and families, particularly those who face barriers to participation. Our work is rooted in the belief that music-making can build confidence, wellbeing and connection, and that everyone deserves the opportunity to discover their voice and shape their future through making music.

Since our founding in 2017, WMC has grown into a trusted, embedded organisation with a strong track record of delivering impactful programmes in partnership with community organisations, venues and national cultural bodies. In 2024, we delivered 215 workshops and 20 performances, working with nearly 2,000 participants and 16 partner organisations. Our work has been recognised with multiple awards, including the NE Culture Award for Youth Achievement and a BBC Make a Difference nomination.

We run a number of targeted music-making projects, which embed our work with community organisations,  such as More than Grandparents and WWIN, delivering projects to their service users.

We run a number of free to access projects and groups, which are listed below.
