Welcome to Sunderland’s Best Start Family Hubs
Our five Best Start Family Hubs are friendly, safe spaces offering support from pregnancy through to age 19, or 25 for young people with SEND. Whether you’re expecting a baby, caring for a toddler or supporting an older child, we’re here to help you feel confident and give your child the very best start in life.

Each hub is based in the heart of Sunderland communities, with good transport links, nearby parking and fully accessible spaces. Our team is always ready to help you find what you need. - Free activities for every family
Enjoy baby and toddler play, sensory sessions, rhyme and story time, SEND‑friendly groups, breastfeeding and infant feeding support, pregnancy and postnatal sessions, and parenting courses — all free and designed with families in mind. - Health support close to home
With our NHS partners and own experienced team, we offer midwife and health visitor support, child health checks, nutrition and weaning advice, antenatal classes, hearing checks, speech and language support and more. - Practical help when you need it
Access welfare and money advice, employment support, guidance for young parents and help connecting with wider services. We’re here to listen, support and never judge.

- Family Hub Access Disclaimer
Children and young people aged 5 to 16 years are not permitted to access the Family Hub between 9:00am and 3:00pm, except under the following circumstances:
- A specific session is being delivered for children and young people of their age.
- The child or young person has been invited to attend for a specific reason, such as an appointment.
- The family has requested and been granted permission for the child or young person to attend. Requests can be made to the Family Hub Manager and will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
