Sunderland Green Doctor “Energy Savvy” scheme
Help for Sunderland residents to stay warm, well, and save money on household energy bills (see attached leaflet)
The Green Doctor Energy Savvy scheme from Groundwork North East, provides free and impartial support to vulnerable households struggling to pay their home energy bills.
Sunderland residents can receive a free and impartial home visit to help reduce their energy bills, access grants for energy efficiency measures, address damp and mould and promote well-being.
Where appropriate the Green Doctor can also install small energy efficiency measures, including LED light bulbs, draft proofing, reflective radiator panels etc.

We can provide different kinds of support, whether that’s advice on paying off debt with energy or water companies, or spotting other concerns for a referral to other services.
Some of the reasons people ask us for help are:
- respiratory problems e.g. asthma or a persistent cough
- Struggling to pay energy bills
- Finding it hard to manage fuel debt
- Worrying about keeping warm or choosing between eating and heating
- Feeling that the home is cold, damp or draughty
- Accessing grants to install energy efficiency measures funded by the Energy Companies
