The Tansy Centre is a vibrant, inclusive community hub located in South Hylton, Sunderland, dedicated to improving the wellbeing, health and social connections of local people. Operated by the registered charity South Hylton Community Project (Charity No. 1097068), the centre provides a welcoming space where people of all ages can come together, take part in activities, access support, develop new skills and build meaningful relationships.

Our mission is to reduce social isolation, strengthen community resilience and create opportunities for people to thrive. We deliver a diverse programme of activities including wellbeing groups, social clubs, family sessions, exercise classes, community events, volunteering opportunities and holiday activities for children and families. We also work alongside local organisations and partners to address issues such as loneliness, poor mental health, health inequalities, financial hardship and lack of access to affordable community services.

The centre offers accessible community facilities including a large hall, meeting rooms, kitchen facilities, outdoor space and affordable room hire for local groups, businesses and residents. As part of our ongoing development, we are expanding our services to include community café provision, environmental projects, digital inclusion activities, training opportunities and volunteering pathways that help people build confidence, skills and independence.

At its heart, the Tansy Centre is a place where people can connect, belong and support one another. Through partnership working, community-led activities and a strong commitment to inclusion, we aim to create a healthier, more connected and resilient community for South Hylton and the wider Sunderland area.
