The Sunderland African Community Association (SACA) stands as a vital cornerstone of empowerment, unity, and inclusion for the African diaspora, their families, and the wider Sunderland community. Rooted in the rich heritage, lived experiences, and leadership of African communities, SACA is deeply committed to forging meaningful bridges with host residents. We champion mutual understanding, shared cultural appreciation, and genuine cohesion across all backgrounds. Our mission extends beyond supporting Black and Minority Ethnic (BME) or Global Majority residents: we actively promote social integration, combat isolation and inequality, and foster welcoming environments where every person in Sunderland feels valued, represented, and empowered to thrive.
Through vibrant cultural celebrations, education and skills development, advocacy, health and wellbeing programmes, refugee and asylum support, and practical community assistance, we address the impacts of marginalisation, migration-related trauma, racism, and socioeconomic hardship. Our approach is trauma-informed, compassionate, and firmly rooted in dignity and respect for all. Guided by core values of integrity and transparency, dignity and respect, equality, diversity and inclusion, health and safety, inspiration and innovation, and continuous learning, we work collaboratively to enrich Sunderland’s social fabric.
Together, we are creating a city where diversity is celebrated, connections are strengthened, and every individual—regardless of background—can flourish in safety, dignity, and true belonging.
