North East Dementia Care

North East Dementia Care is a charity delivering a friendly and professional day care service for people with late stage Dementia and their carers. It was set up by the Falkner family, whose loved one, Billy had benefitted from a similar service until he deteriorated and required ‘personal care’. Following Billy’s passing, his wife, Sandra resolved to ensure that other people living with Dementia should not be excluded from outside stimulation and support as their needs grew.
Trustees and staff alike have lived experience of the emotional and physical burden of caring at home for a loved one, living with dementia. We know that no matter how much you care and no matter your caring skills – it’s exhausting. All Carers need and deserve support and time away to recharge have a bit of me time and to recharge the batteries.
At North East Dementia Care, you can leave your loved one with us knowing they will get outstanding care from compassionate staff . We will collect them from your home in the morning, provide escorted travel in our own adapted minibuses to our centre in Pennywell where staff will be waiting to engage them in a thoughtful programme of evidence based psychosocial activities throughout the day.
Our aim is to bring a little of home into the centre. Our assessment staff will work with you to who before your loved one attends to find our about what is important to your loved one, their old routines , hobbies and their place in the family and community. Even though their memories are fading, we use this knowledge and the rapport our staff will develop with your loved one to recreate an environment which resonates with their personality and triggers positive emotional responses. Our aim is to put a smile on our client’s faces. You can see from photographs on our website and facebook that your loved one will have fun.
We also provide a choice of home cooked lunches and snacks throughout the day – all within the day service cost. And then at the end of the day our experienced drivers and escorts will return you loved one home again.

Our centre – is within but a separate part of the Pennywell Neighbourhood centre (next to the shopping centre.) We have sole access to a very large ground floor area, divided into a number dedicated rooms, including a sensory room, changing areas, new catering kitchen and Carers meeting space. We benefit from a Tovatafel table and funding to bring in additional activities facilitators and service. Our programme often include pet therapy, singing for the brain, dancing through the ages, seated exercise to music, arts and crafts, sensory workshops and memory work.

We support around 70 different people over a year, with approximately 3200 days of care.
