The Learning and Skills Service offers courses in a wide range of learning venues across Sunderland, via online platforms and distance learning. This means you can access learning locally in places like community centres, schools and libraries, as well as in your own home.
The Learning and Skills Service work alongside skilled training providers to deliver:
Functional Skills – English and maths courses for anyone who’d like to brush up on their skills, or may want to achieve a recognised qualification in these areas.
Digital Skills – Courses to develop a general understanding of basic technology, as well as developing abilities needed for a specific industry such as software development.
Skills for employment – Supporting you to create a CV, develop interview techniques, identify your strengths and qualities and explore the job market.
Sector based training – Specific training that will give you the skills and knowledge to start a new career in customer service, construction or the health and social care sector.
Family Learning – Supporting parents to gain literacy, numeracy and everyday life skills, giving them confidence to support their child’s development. Courses are delivered in community settings and schools across Sunderland.
Health, wellbeing and confidence building – helping you to understand what contributes to positive mental wellbeing and engage in activities that will help you to connect with others, give your time, take notice, keep learning, and be active.
